Title: Slow site
Post by: StarlinerRon on November 13, 2022, 12:16:53 AM
I know there have been slow downs noted lately.  I just timed 14 seconds to open a subject, now the site is slower than my racecar  LOL.

Ron.

I am running around 30 seconds for a page load.  It has to be a very interesting topic for me to open a thread.  I'm an older guy and just don't have that kind of time in my life.  I've tried different browsers, different settings and this is the only site on the whole Internet where I have the dial-up experience.

Yea
Slowest site on the internet and getting slower.
When I click on the site it takes 65 second's to load and if I click on a subject to read it's 20 seconds.
Tried everything I know to speed it up.
Used to be as fast as all the other site's until about a year ago.

It seems like in the last two weeks, it's slowed more than ever.

I timed my connection, just now and about 3 days ago, it was 23 sec, both times.

Site has been slow for me also. I have had difficulty logging in even. I don't have any active projects at the moment so don't mind speed. Hope it gets better though.

Same here, about 25 seconds and getting worse. I just find something useful to do while it loads, like paint the house, cut a load of wood or read War and Peace.

This site is literally slower than dial-up

I come here daily just to see if anything new is happening, but only go to the home page to check, and rarely check in.

FE.com is still my home not only because it's faster, but that is a major factor.

I only have issues with it being a little slow on my laptop.  I mostly come here on my phone , stay loged in and can generally open any topic in 3 to 5 seconds max.

Yes, what Greg said x 2:  for me it started about a year ago as well - site was down for a while (server crash?) and when it came back it was (and is) very slow to respond.  Randy M

Same, I just use my phone these days, and it’s not a new one either, a 4 year old iPhone, and it’s only a small lag, maybe 3 seconds max at times. In fact for me lately it actually seems faster than it was about a year ago when we were discussing this issue.

Later this week maybe I’ll try stopping at the local library and try their computer, see how it goes.

While the forum may not operate at the speed we may like, we must remember our access to the forum and the wealth of information contained within are at no cost. Hopefully Jay, in all of his free time, may find a resolution.

Thanks to Jay for his hard work and such a wonderful resource. Thanks to all of the great members whom participate and grow resource.

I don't know why so many folks are having slow response times.  It is really fast here, no issues.  In any case, there's nothing I can do about it short of a major change like swapping hosting services, which I'm not willing to do at this point.  I will call GoDaddy again next week, but it hasn't helped before.

Yep.
Slow but in the range of 5 to 10 seconds and I am on the other side of pond.
If I had to guess it's some sort Dos attack towards the server provider.

Used to take 15 seconds to open a post, now is around 25 seconds

Takes around 50 seconds to respond to a post

I have AT&T Fiber

Not complaining, just adding to the info

I've always encounter slow loading times here but the past week or two it's gotten really slow. I use three different computers on three different services and a cell phone on AT&T. This morning I'm at 40-44 seconds to load each page. So 5 minutes has passed since I came onto the site, selected the Tech forum, clicked on a topic (this one), clicked reply until now.

Getting to the home page is lightning fast.  No issues.  It only when navigating to the forums that things get bad.  This suggests a database problem for some users.  It takes me 22 seconds for the forums to load.  And 22 seconds for a topic to load or to open the topic response page.  It takes a minute or more for a response to post.  This has come up before.  It doesn't matter the site is free.  For people looking for help, that's great.  For people providing the help, it becomes a chore.  If it's not working right, the ISP has to resolve the problem.

Its getting slower. today was about 10 second's longer on each request.
It seems if I remember correctly that Jay changed ISP host about a year or so ago.
If I remember that is when the site started to slow down.

Maybe the choke is stuck? Plug wire off? Need a bigger squirter in the carb?

It's been slow for me on my work computer for quite a while. Few months at least. I just assumed it was a Ford issue?

Slow on this end too BUT remember that the valuable information we receive for free is worth a little slow down.  We all have to deal with ultra slow and broken chebbies on the road and we just grin and pass them.  And we think we have it bad with a slow load up on the site.

i belong to other automotive sites and they pop up as soon as i tap the button.my son has our computer hotrodded too,but it still takes over 10 seconds or more for me too,but its not slow enough to make me stay away

it took so long just now that it almost timed out before loading

Maybe additional info can help isolate the problem, since it seems to be with random people and not everyone. Hard to understand how it could be GoDaddy with it being so random, unless it's an issue between GoDaddy and certain ISP's.

Yes, the site is free, but when it becomes so laborious for people to merely access the site, it becomes less and less desirable to do so. That's not good for the forum. Today, it's worse yet, taking over 30 seconds to load any page. The trend is worse, never better.

I use Spectrum for my ISP. But no other site has this issue, just this one.

Same here, I bypass most of the uninteresting topics (a lot anymore on here) due to the speed.

if the problem is found, maybe they could help me getting some of my projects done a little bit faster.

Yeah, It's getting pretty bad out here in CA.  I recently visited Jay and he's right - It's quite snappy at his place.

Jay - Here are some configuration hints to make an SMF forum quicker:

https://www.fastcomet.com/tutorials/smf/optimize-smf

Also, if you are using the free version of Cloudflare for access to far away places, there's a setting that you might try turning off:

"If you're using all the standard settings with Cloudflare try going to the Speed tab and scroll down to Rocket Loader and turn it off. I had issues with a few spots on my forum until I disabled that. It may not work in your case but it's a quick thing to check just to be sure. "

Not only is it slow, but I get kicked off from time to time and have to login again. As a positive, I found my password in an old notebook LOL

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into them.  One problem I have is that I just don't have time to screw around with the forum software, contacting the ISP, etc. etc.  The forum ran fine for many years; I don't know why folks are having problems now, and I'm sorry that is happening, but I'm up to my neck in FE Power projects so at the moment I can't do much about it.  Frankly, I'm tired of hearing all the complaints; makes me wonder why I bother hosting this forum.  I'm locking this thread; please note that I understand the issues some people are having, and will try to resolve them as time permits.  Thanks - Jay
