Not a truck but might as well be.
64 galaxie with 3.00 gears.......
the XE262H from comp
Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 262/270, Lift .513/.520
Has done this ol thing very well. Power brakes work really well and I used to drive this thing 160 miles every weekend to come home from shool. Then it was my daily driver for a few years. Cruised great, pushed that thing pretty darn well.
390, 9.5:1, FPA headers, C8ae-h heads with bigger valves and mild port work, edelbrock RPM intake and 650 carb.

If the blower is to small for a 4.6 (thus why the customer and all the other mustang guys upgrade to a Kenne bell) then I doubt it will be up to the task of a 7.1 The cost of the cheap blower would be offset by the cost of adapting some sort of EFI system to make it work. If your looking for boost look at a 8-71 from BDS, TBS, Hampton to name a few. If you want to keep it under the hood look at doing a blow through setup like Jay had on the Mach1.

FE Technical Forum / Re: what weight synthetic oil?
« on: January 25, 2013, 08:07:26 PM »
I would shoot for 10-40 then. The final viscosity is determined by bearing clearances, the tighter your clearances the thinner your oil should be. Honestly it’s probably out of my league. All I have for you is knowledge I’ve gained from reading alot and forums. Sorry.

Are you running a flat tappet cam? If so I personnaly would avoid synthetics. A while ago some one published some ZDDP numbers for different oils. I use Castrol GTX 20-50 with a bottle of Red (it has to be red not blue) STP motor oil additive. Year round however it only gets to about 0* here. Anything with flat tappets need lots of ZDDP. Next oil change im switching to 10w-40 however. This is just MHO though.  :)

Cool thanks, i thought that it might adsorb oxygen from the air and get ruined or something.
Thanks all

Nice results! I have not checked the Dove website before. Looking at it now, which version of the SK heads do you have? I also have a 64 and would like similar power numbers ~550. however probably from a 445 :(

I know that you have had the engine apart, could it be something with the valvetraing/cam phasing being slightly off from previous set point? Could the water have toasted the rings and be causing ring flutter?
Hoping to help

Hey guys, Im Reuben Anderson, Im in Albuquerque New Mexico. My first car was a 1956 Buick special that I got in highschool in 2000. Went to college in 2003 and got a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 08. The Buick sparked my intrest in old cars. I fell in love with an old and really beat up 64 Galaxie that seemed to be an old dirt track car that was left in a field by my grandmas house in a tiny Nebraska town (pop 32) Since then I purchased 2 64 Fast back XL's one from Eureka California (epay) and drove it back. Turned out that it was a rust bucket. Found another in Sacramento. Flew out! and drove that one home too! This is the car you see in the pic. I swapped the interiors and then sold the other car. I have added Crites fiberglass front end and built a mild 390 for it along with converting it to a 4spd. This car was my daily driver until 2010 when my wife and I started a family. Now it is my fun car, I just wish it was lighter. I have built 2 390's and a 347sb ford that made 500-whp with a little help from a bottle. I enjoy the process of designing and building an engine. Working on getting the capital to put together a couple. Eventually I would like to run 11's in the ol' gal with a 6-71 or 8-71. However that is at our local track that is at 5300ft elevation.

Currently restoring the fuel system, new tank and 3/8 line, and working to pay the bills  :D

FE Technical Forum / Re: Bore Notching
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:58:04 AM »
I found the article from engine masters in my mag collection. Its from Dec/08. Its for one of their entries (350 chev) and a (318 mopar) & on the front at the top it says Bore Relieving for flow and power. Searched the internet and there is not much out there (including the article) :-\. Mostly chev stuff with 350 heads on 305's. I plan on investigating this on the 390 I'm going to build up once I get my hands on a set of Edelbrock heads. Seems to be simple and may be worth 10-30hp depending on where you get the information.
Best Regards,

« on: April 11, 2011, 10:08:37 AM »
I have another 390 that I would like to build up. Due to the obvious smaller bore I have been looking at notching the area around the intake valve. I have seen this done on some brand x engines on both sides. Would I gain any flow with the notches? Would it be worth while doing both intake and exhaust sides? Or is this a mod only reserved for Engine masters.
Thanks and Best Regards

FE Technical Forum / Re: Weight and ET, Thanks Jay

Thanks Jay, I appreciate your time. 200lbs sounds good to me, however I as well was hoping for closer to 300. Your galaxie is amazing along with your other cars. I enjoy your work and what you have done for the FE world.
Best Regards,

FE Technical Forum / Weight and ET
« on: April 07, 2011, 07:50:26 AM »
The rule of thumb that I have heard is that for every 100lbs a car looses it will subtract a tenth from the ET. I was looking at the fiberglass parts for my 64 Gal on the Crites site and was wondering how much weight the trunk lid, front and rear bumpers, and core support, would cut off of the Gal. Or should I get the Fiberglass doors as well? I have already replaced the Front outer fenders and hood along with the heavy iron intake. What Fiberglass parts did you run on your 64 JayB? I would love to read a build up spec sheet for your 64 if you have one.
Thanks and best regards,
RLander
