FE Technical Forum / Re: Split dominator manifold & camshaft
« on: July 08, 2017, 12:27:59 PM »
Jay I have your intake book and studied the numbers, I am aiming at 600hp, the great results shown by the webbers were the reason I was interested in trying the IR manifold.
These carbs came off a 812 cube sonnys prostock engine and look to be heavily worked.
The throttle plates are 2.2" so I think they should flow enough for my use.
I was concerned they be way to big if used on a plenum hence suggestion of tripower.
Also why I was interested in cam specs as currently have a 232" @ .50 hydraulic roller on order and was thinking I need to go solid/ solid roller to get more rpm to utilise these carbs.
And if IR then options to reduce reversion.
I do have the reversion plates so that should help.
Love the look of webbers and thought this be a interesting and individual intake setup, and hopefully as successful as Weber IR.
Am in contact with CFM as carbs were produced by them.
Brent thanks for info will google that manifold you suggested tonight.
I am all ears. Jays intake was in my plan if I go IR.

That link has your standard pro stock sheet metal manifold.
Certainly effective but not at all what I am trying to achieve.

If I cannot run them on a short individual runners then I will look at a tri power intake with progressive linkage.

Scott I was thinking as there be a carby Venturi able to feed each port I might be able to run independent runners. Like the Weber carburettors do so successfully.
Is the reason I require a plenum due to using holleys?

FE Technical Forum / Split dominator manifold & camshaft
« on: July 07, 2017, 05:39:22 PM »
eBay got the better of me while working out at sea!
Purchased 4 split dominators for a great price. Have a fresh built 390 stroker with 4.250 rpm steel crank.
Ordered new flat top pistons from Barry to raise comp at 10.7 with unshaved heads.
Question is could the Carbs be mounted on individual runner intake similar to webers?
Or maybe a tripower style arrangement if I must keep them progressive with a plenum?

Limiting factor on rpm as I see it will be the t@d street rockers.
If I go to a solid or solid roller camshaft what is max rpm that I can reliably achieve with my setup?
Understand that cylinder port flow will be critical to the max hp achieved so will be getting the kc stage 2 heads flowed and hopefully improved locally.

Any advise on the intake setup?
What camshaft would be recommended if individual runners are used not used?
Will reversion be an issue?
Thanks
Joel

True 4V heads?
as in 4 valves per pot? That be a modern twist.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Copper paste on aluminium
« on: July 01, 2016, 03:55:29 AM »
i work at sea, some times in my past on aluminum hulled boats.
Working at sea we avoid this like the plague.
But saying that its copper aluminum and salt water.
Stainless bolts also thrown in for good measure.
Equals a battery with aluminum being the metal that dissolves.
With out the salt water i be think it be ok.
If you ever take it to sea give it a thorough wash after lol
Copper is definitely better at the high temp ranges.
turbo and exhaust manifold bolts.
Cat 34 series love to brake exhaust studs. Cat even made a kit with a alignment plate to drill them out centrally.
Run it, once manifold gaskets leak then you can clean threads with some contact cleaner.

How much Hp would they have gained by going from 9.2 to 10.2 compression with this style build?

Drag Strip Results for FE Powered Vehicles / Re: 63 Galaxie 500XL

Todd,
hope to be able to give you a bit of local galaxie competition soon.
My 65 is slowly coming together, full torrington roller c4 being built by Versmar at moment and converter to hopefully suit my engine.
Headers and bonnet ordered from crites and should be on boat any day.
I see your diff ratio changed from 4.1 to 4.56 have you settled on that yet? what rpm through traps? I fitted a 3.7 thats ok.
Lovely car and just love that old school original look.
That motor is cool, such a sleeper.
hopefully my auto gives me an advantage as i think you got more engine than me. :'(
might give you a call next time i am home.

Ean,
Having reread your thread 2 things are noted.
Todd hangs around machine shops..spying at others FE..parts. 8)
Secondly you stated a "engine builder".
The shops i refereed to are machine shops only, they will generally not build you a engine, if you have a very large budget, and a race team, they might be convinced to build engines.
In perth engine builders and machine shops are very different animals.

Ean,
send me a pm in regards to which machine shop you are using in Osborne park, there are three i no of there and i am on a first name basis with 2 of them. I have had basic machining done there at both shops to FE blocks, and many other uncommon engines that are very hard to replace, 1938 Nash 6, Honda Cbx 6 to name a few.
I am not aware if they have torque plates but can call them and find out.
I am positive that they will ask for pistons to measure so they can hone to size as boring very small amounts may cause chatter in the tool resulting in a unsatisfactory bore finish.
While neither are FE specialists i have found both to be very knowledgeable in many aspects of machining and more importantly measuring.
i am not sure of this forums rules but think a PM is a better way to help solve your problems.

FE Technical Forum / C4 tranny build specs behind a 445 FE
« on: June 11, 2014, 09:10:37 AM »
Hi all,
my 65 galaxie is moving toward completion.
diff installed last month. 3.89 true trac 31 spline.
next is to fit the motor and trans.
i have a 445 estimate 470 hp FE ready to go
and a little C4 tranny i picked up, have fitted new bellhousing to suit.
What do i have to do to the tranny for it to survive as a sunday driver with ocasional wednesday nights at the drags?
I have a bunch of info on how to do it and what to do from other sites, but where do i draw the line and what bits must i have? Hardened input shaft, deep pan. extra clutches??
Future plans involve a gearvendors overdrive and changing to 1350 unis if i need a new shaft.
Any advise be great.
thanks

Jay,
Any measurement taken on carb plate height of the 351 manifold fitted to your adapter?
Compared to FE rpm performer?

I think this adapter is fantastic, just hopping i can fit it under the hood!!

T&D bolt on rocker gear is 5/16 cups on rockers. I am pretty sure..
or i have the wrong pushrods in my engine  :o

Note; i am in aussie so postage required.
If anyone knows of a pedal assembly laying around please contact me.
Thanks
