So after a few very interesting talks with Blair Patrick I have a final plan for my 67 mustang

So after a few very interesting talks with Blair Patrick I have a final plan for my 67 mustang We have gone with a BBM block and heads. Roller cam , Victor FI intake, FAST XFI 2.0 EFI twin 69 mm turbo's inner cooler and meth/water injection, Blair has free range on engine combo , says I can drive this car to California but it's going to make a lot of torque.
I will try and remember to take as many pictures along the way . Plan is to run drag week next year

I do know one thing about twin turbo setups......they take a lot of perseverance to get dialed in. I've watched a few guys shelve their projects and/or sell their cars because they can't seem to get the tuning shaken out. Give yourself some time and if it's not working as intended, don't worry, you wont be the first to battle through twin turbo tuning.

I have a degree in automotive technology and ran a nuclear power plant for 25 years. So after I pull my hair out trying to figure this out I can then say how hard can it be

To keep with my word on pictures. Assembled the rear with brace, pressed in the longer studs, moved the battery to the trunk to make room for turbo's . Got Fuel line and fittings in. AN-10 fittings are huge ! Battery disconnect handle is pretty hidden going thru bumper. Didn't want to cut up the rear finned panels I know this is all small stuff but need to start somewhere. Yes factory FORD panels. Car was loaded from the factory. Has exterior decor group option

Cool I have two Ford sets.One set is on the 67 coupe and one set on the 68 Fastback...I would really like a picture of what Ford used on the inside for hardware on the studs that just go through the tin.As in the little wedgie blocks..Would that be possible..
The Ford panels are very rare and to add to it coupe/conv panels are different that fastback..

Started to assemble the intake and injectors, fuel rails say 3/8 NPT. Bought 3/8 NPT to AN-8 fittings and they don't fit any ideas. They are edelbrock fuel rails

Me thinks the hole is 1/4" pipe in the fuel rail.
So 1/4" NPT to AN 8 should work.

Got the rear bolted in
I notice that you do not have the spring perches welded up.
They need to be boxed in or you will have a failure and it will happen.
Not a big deal, but needs to be done. :)

Looking good, Russ. On the fuel rails, most of the ones I've seen use a straight thread, not a pipe thread, with an O-ring seal. A #8 AN is common. Can you screw the AN side of your fitting into the rail? If not, is it too big or too small?

I plan on moving the spring perches in if I move the leafs for a bigger tire , but I will weld them up either way thanks

I grabbed a -6 O Ring fitting it screwed right in So I guess I will order another 4 fittings

Now this is just some thinking, but I would consider the Shelby drop on the front to correct the wheel spazz.
And if they are not in yet a full set of some heavy duty rails under the seats.
Maybe even a hoop and door bars.
The thing is going to take off in the air. ;D

ScotiaFE that was leaving at 1800 rpm ! Steel flywheel 5 speed and 4.57 gears, .030 390 ported edelbrocks factory dual quad intake hooker headers and a 25 yr old comp cam
I think I have the chassis working pretty good for now
Plan is for a 8 point cage

That 520 incher will do some bucking if not. ;)

We are going to work with some solid motor mounts and a bar on the drivers side after all the turbo piping is installed

Got most of the fuel system finished up this is all moving much slower than I had anticipated
Working for a living is getting in the way of my car habit

I do have a small problem. The pushin filler cap or in my case the crankcase evac cap hits the export brace So another set of VC's should fix this but which set ? Are the Aluminum CJ style much shorter ? Or get the BT with the holes up front ?

So the engine was ran on the Dyno
520 ci BBM heads and block. Small hyd. Roller cam (idles at 800 rpm) 9 to 1 compression on 93 octane, locked out timing at 32 deg. 662 tq and 617 hp. Next comes a pair of 69 mm turbos and EFI

Russ, looks like you've got a bit of torque to spare on that one! And a nice wide torque band too. With 2 turbos added, and EFI, that should make for a very VERY interesting ride. I hope you have lots of clean underwear! ;D

Too funny had the same statement about my 32 bantam 351C and fogger NOS system, and the fox body mustang with a kaase headed 514 ci

Wow, that is a monster now, going to be a bit insane with the turbos... I noticed the A/F ratio looked a bit rich on the dyno sheet, was that on purpose for the turbo tune? looks like its in the mid 11-1 for most of the pull, usually you would want that to be 12.5-13 ish wouldn't you?
Your N/A motor is very similar to what i am planning for my old truck, 520ci, small cam etc.
I'm planning on a bit more compression and a set of pro-port heads, so should put up about the same numbers, with a bit of a bump from the compression.

Usually with a supercharged or turbocharged engine you want to run a bit rich, 11.5-12.0 or so. I think his A/F is spot on for a blower application.

Agree but this dyno chart was NA just to check out the engine
I have a FAST EFI system in the car now so Blair just ran a carb he had on hand , also dist was locked at 32 deg. We didn't care about all out power as the set up with the turbo's will come together in my mustang . So I am sure there is some more in it but under boost the NA numbers are going to be weak

We purposefully used lower static c/r, and also the ports, both intake and exhaust are VERY large. I wanted the big port volumes and the compression to compliment the finished product. I left it a little rich on purpose, because as Jay said, the "tune" on the EFI will be a little richer for WOT. Not so much for the part throttle tune. I'll use a little less cam, and a little more static on yours Joe, and the SPP port volumes will probably bump closer to 700/700 for peaks on a purpose-built truck thumper. The SPP move the same air....a little more actually, as the CNC BBMs with more than 20 less CCs in the intake runner......

Very nice build/write up. Can you post more info on the EFI and ignition? Very interested in your set-up.. are you running the phantom in tank pump set up too?

FAST EFI port injected , XFI 2.0 computer , twin 69 mm Borg Warner turbos , ign is FAST also (crane box) also FAST dual sync dist, for fuel system I have a eliminator fuel pump with controller AN-10 lines McRobb pickup in the stock tank he added the AN-10 fitting for me (great to deal with by the way)

Looking good, Russ! What sort of boost numbers are you planning on running? Are you going to keep it low for longevity's sake? I think you'll be running anywhere from 800 to 1000 hp, depending. Did Blair mention where he thinks the limit should be for boost? I have no idea where the limit would be for an FE. For a stock block, the crank webbing would be the weak point. But for a BBM block I'm not sure if it would be the lower end or the clamping force on the heads, with only 4 studs per cylinder. You're in new FE territory, as far as I'm aware.

Russ, are you worried about having cooling problems with that setup? I would be; those intercoolers are going to block a lot of flow through the radiator...

Jay, I will see how the cooling system does , my diesel didn't come with a cooler I bought Gale Banks cooler fit right in front of the radiator and oil cooler. I have not noticed any difference in engine temps. Now I know they are two different animals but the diesel works hard for longer periods of time
So we shall see As you know there is not a lot of room in a 67/68 to place that stuff so that seemed the best we could do I also have the methanol Injection

A little update on the project
Had to remove the car from the shop that was doing the header install , after approx 6 months and $4500 I had a set of motor mounts 5 tacked together tubes and my intercoolers tacked together and set in front of the radiator, at that rate it would have been done in January and around $10000
So this was my most expensive lesson ever

Annoying, sorry you have to deal with that.
How's your welding skills? It looks at least like you have a pattern to work with, if it's fitting so far.
Lot to be said for doing it yourself, though I completely understand having someone do it because of time/family/skill/room and a hundred other reasons.

I can weld but don’t have the equipment to weld stainless and dont have a pipe bender

Ok those are two more reasons, but, there are stainless mandrel bent tubing kits out there so you don't need a bender. You can just make cuts.
Wish you lived closer to me, I could turn you on to a good honest guy.
Anyway good luck with it. Anxious to see it done.
