Title: Intake gasket "recipies",what ever happened to .....
Post by: fairlaniac on March 14, 2023, 10:28:15 AM
..... to the Victor Reinz and spray them both sides with Permatex Red High Tack gasket? I know Victor is gone but in the early 2000's on the FE forum the magic was using the Permatex. Is anyone still spraying their intake gaskets with that? I ask because in 2005 when I put my 390 with 428CJ heads and 7105 RPM intake together. I used V/R intake gaskets sprayed with Permatex Red, It went leak free until 2020 and only for disassembly purposes. Just curious.

Thanks,

For many years we used Permatex Red either spray or brush on, actually I'd say decades.  I am not sure why it went out of style.  It was good stuff for a light adhesive/sealant

I don't like it for cork end seals, it's not strong enough, and generally not needed on the intake ports, but certainly nothing wrong with it using a standard gasket.  I'd venture to guess it'd be fine with silicone bead gaskets too.  If I had to guess, people started going dry and/or a little silicone and no need to keep two things on the shelf drying up

Having a panic moment here, because my last old can is probably dried up. Is Permatex 80065 even the same product as the old spray tack? But yeah, love that stuff.

edit: I see. The new number supersedes #99M. The oldold cans were 99G. Whatever.
