FE swap
« on: May 24, 2014, 10:55:08 AM »
Does anyone on here have a Falcon with a FE in it? I found a 1969 Falcon Sport Coupe that I like and wondered what I would need to swap out the 302 and put a FE in it? Nice thing the car is a stick allready and I have a Fe toploader in the garage. Do I have to cut the towers or any serious mods to the engine bay? I`ve built alot of Mavs with 351ws and know all about moding the towers but really hope I dont have to with this car. As allways Thanks

Well...you also need the motor mounts and frame mounts from a FE. Engine compartment/subframe is basically the same as a '68-'69 Fairlane / Comet. There is a 2 piece metal bracket and a rubber mount for each side. Mounts and brackets are the same for '66-69. I'll see if I can take a picture for you.

These are what you need to find. First photo is without the rubber mount. Rubber mount bolts to engine block.

I'd check with with these guys if you don't get an answer. http://www.fordpowertrain.com/FPAindex/Fairlane1.htm

They make the headers for FE's in other cars, and they make them for 66-69 Falcons and Fairlanes with the small blocks. They've also sold to guys that are trying to use different motors in cars. They follow up with those guys trying to do mismatches like your idea so they may have helpful info.
They're a really product although pricey.

Any of the 66-69 fairlane fe headers should fit. Automatic and 4 spd are different. Like thatdarnkat said they are the same sub frame as the fairlane.

I am completing the swap currently. I have a complete extra set of engine mounts, and a transmission mount if you need them. I did not cut the shock towers and I will be using a set of FPA headers.

Thanks Jim I may ask to buy yours in a few weeks. Whats the going price for Frame, engine and trans mnts? How bout headers is there better fitting stick shift ones then others? I`m goin to Ford Carlisle trying to get a list. Between my 54 crestline the 3 Mavericks and now maybe this falcon I`ll need a bigger truck to bring the stuff home.
