I hope those tracks hold too.  National Trail isn't the greatest track, but its not bad, and the other three tracks are world class.  The drive to National Trail wouldn't be that bad from Minneapolis...

Kinda confirmed.
They leaked it during the Engine Masters rule press conference.
All the tracks are within 4-5 hours of my house...

Wow, that would be a giant circle around my house! If ever there was a time to do it....but dang it, I just don't know if I can swing the costs with my other plans and projects going on. I could just cruise through it with the GT, but that just wouldn't seem right without an FE powered car, and mine would never pass a tech. :-\

Jay you better learn how to use and repack the chute for National Trails. That is a short shutdown.

It is official. Does anyone know where the nearest Texas Roadhouse is to National Trail?

That is going to be a great circuit.  Doug, you can always show up as a spectator if nothing else, but I think it would be cool to see you run the Mach 1 in Street Eliminator.  There is a chance this year for a top-shelf FE presence at the event.  Assuming Kevin brings his Shelby again, and Alan gets his FE Mustang done and brings that, Jack and Scott Miller bring their Mustang and Cougar again, you bring your Mach 1 and I bring my Shelby clone, that would be six pretty cool FE cars at the event.  I'd take those six cars against any other six cars at the event for cool factor...

Kevin should bring the Cougar. The  first BIG question is will Steve be joining us? The second question is will Joel be bringing the Hot Rod or a backup car again?

The latest from Steve is that he won't be bringing his own car, but I hope he changes his mind.  I've wanted to take my brother with me on Drag Week for several years, and last year he was going to go, but he had to bail out, which is why I asked Steve.  If my brother bails out again this year, maybe I can talk Steve into coming with me again, or maybe he can go with Kevin if he has the Cougar ready.  Lots of time to figure this all out; we need to get Steve back to Drag Week...

I didn't get any sleep at all last night thinking about this. I just don't see how I can pass this up.

With absolutely no room in the car for another set of tires, and a trailer is out of the question, did Kevin just run his DOT slicks the whole time?

Doug, Kevin was able to fit his slicks and all his tools in the car.  You could probably do the same, but using that approach there's no room for a passenger.

If I were you I'd think about a trailer.  Buy a spare rear bumper, a cheapie, bolt a trailer hitch onto the bumper, and run that bumper during Drag Week!

I'd be stupid to pass this up. My Son and I were talking about going sometime as spectators, but this is the best opportunity I'll get to actually participate.

He must have removed his passenger seat because I don't see how you could get them past the seat? I most likely won't have a passenger so I could do that. I do already have a small trailer that would work, and an old bumper that still looks good, so I'm already trying to figure out a way to brace the bumper, coming from underneath, without drilling any holes in the frame. I might see how coming off the rear frame tie-down points would work. I remember you had a couple issues with your trailer attachment the first year of Drag Week when you ran with the Mach 1. You may not remember, but I was there when you needed an extended mirror (which I happened to have in my car) to see what was going on. You still owe me a ride for that :)

Kevin left the passenger seat in the car. He had a system down and both slick were in the car and every square inch was packed.

Doug, if your trailer is light enough and you are carrying most items in the car, I think you could bolt directly to the bumper and live with that.

I had welded my trailer hitch to the sheet metal of the trunk, hoping it would carry the load.  It didn't  ::)  But when I tied the hitch up to the bumper at Martin, it worked like a charm.  I think the bumper mounting brackets and bumper are solid enough to handle a 300 pound trailer, especially if there's not a lot of tongue weight.

I didn't realize I still owed you a ride LOL!  Of course, you haven't been around to collect  ;D

Jay, thanks for the trailer info. I'm sure I'll have a few more questions for you guys as time progresses.

And I'll be up tomorrow for the ride. If you have to work, no problem, just give me the keys and I'll take it (my choice of cars) for a quick spin. 8)

You could run it in Street Eliminator, Steve.  Maybe set up a 125 HP nitrous shot and get into the low 11s, so you could make the bracket race...

Doug ( and anyone else ), if you get a chance to do Dragweek I'd say go for it. It's definitely a gearhead bucket list item. Warning though, it can be addicting! Every one of the participants I met were the friendliest bunch of people. Upon reflection, the format of Dragweek was genius, requiring that your first line of help be your fellow competitors really fosters a spirit of everyone needing each other and being part of one big adventure. Had the rules been different, say by allowing chase vehicles, outside help, isolating and pitting competitors against each other, the event would probably have developed a totally different feel. And I got a chance to bench race face to face with participants and fans from around the world - Norway, Sweden, Finland, Canada & Australia and probably some places I'm forgetting, where else can you do something like that?

As far as packing - I was able to fit a pair of slicks inside the Shelby on the fold down rear seat. Now, let me be the first to say, I wouldn't advise anyone to do this. Had I been in an accident I'm sure it wouldn't have ended well! It was on my my mind the whole week that those tires were right behind me. Whatever you decide to do, plan safe. Here's a picture:

I had planned on installing a one gallon fuel cell in the engine compartment with quick connect couplings to the mechanical fuel pump, but that was one of the projects I ran out of time for. This meant I ended up draining and swapping pump gas and race gas from the stock tank all week and I needed to have enough empty fuel jugs to drain into and race gas on hand to fill the stock tank enough to cover the fuel pickup while racing. Had I been better prepared or if a person had a car that ran on pump gas on the track as well I wouldn't have needed most of those jugs and it would have freed up enough space in the trunk for one of the slicks. That would also have freed up the front seat for a passenger.

When I was a kid my dad used to make me pack the car for family trips, and I was told it better all fit - or else! lol. That skill paid off later in life for Dragweek. Here's a picture of everything I had packed in the car each day:

Thanks for the insight, Kevin. I do have a fold down rear seat so that obviously helps, but the high back buckets don't. I'll have to do some experimenting to see if I can get the tires in. If my Son goes, I'll need the trailer regardless, so for now I'll plan that way.

I definitely recommend test packing. By the way, a few years ago when I planned on taking my '96 Lincoln Mk VIII on Dragweek - the ill fated year Jay was going to bring 3 cars and we didn't go - both slicks for that car, along with my tools and floor jack all fit in the trunk! And it had a spare tire.

If you've ever seen my garage or studio, you'd know how good I was at packing ::)

I'm an avid backpacker, and minimizing and packing technique are pretty important there. I can pack 2 weeks worth of camping/survival equipment and food into a 40lb backpack  :)

Joel and I have a steak dinner bet if his Hot Rod will be done or not for Drag Week 2016. If it is, I owe him a steak dinner. If not he owes me. I lost 2 bets last year at Drag Week to him.

NOTHING will motivate Joel to get his car done then the thought of losing that bet to me. NOTHING.
