Impressive...but I'll be really wowed when I see the video of them gliding to a landing on roller skates instead of using parachutes.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Gear vendors od

Read your fordmuscleforums thread from beginning to end...very informative.  I would v much like to have much more aggressive rear gearing to replace the AC-mandated 3.00:1 28-spline unit currently in the Cyclone, but the total cost of rear end upgrade + GV purchase is a significant deterrent.  I don't seem to have much luck finding affordable used units so, if it happens, am resigned to the brand-new route -- which won't be anytime soon.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience.

Understatement of the week...it's just plain ugly.

Possibly...at that asking price you'd think the seller would spring for some decent pics.

Very, very nice, thanks for sharing that.  I expect it takes a lot of dedication to follow the FE path in England.
Is it close to being a street-able hot rod or a track toy only?

I installed this distributor in my street-duty-only 67 Cyclone 390; no issues but be aware that it is considerably taller (from the base of the intake manifold to the top of the cap) than the stock Ford unit.

Why would we want to...General Mayhem is a RoadKill click-bait stunt, significantly aided and abetted by Dodge

Well deserved after your tireless work, Jay.  As so many others have said, a truly inspirational effort.

Only guaranteed solution I know of is to unplug things, admittedly a PITA and not possible in all situations.

Thanks for sharing...great to see folks having quarter mile fun with old cars.  Absolutely the very best way to recycle 'em.

Gratiot Auto Supply...that was the place back in the day. Never did it myself (too young and a chickensh-t) but knew a few ballsy fellows who would drive their iron across from Windsor or Sarnia ON down to Detroit, install speed parts (headers, intakes, carbs, etc) in the parking lot and drive back.  Canada Customs -- or whatever they were called back then -- were none the wiser.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 1967 Fairlane XL Weight
« on: July 10, 2015, 02:22:52 PM »
Cyclone is 3460 lb (weighed on certified scale) less my carcass but with 20 gal gas tank pressed full, complete stock interior (incl power windows), fiberglass hood, alum intake, headers + about 100 lbs (est) of Dynamat.

The 1967 Comet fact sheet quotes the base Cyclone 2-door hardtop at 3228 lb curb weight (all liquids plus full tank of gas) + 266 lbs for the FE engine, 59 lb for the C6, 31 lbs for dual exhaust and 21 lbs for power windows (all weights additional over the base 289 model) = 3605 lb.

If all this can be believed, the net weight saving yielded by a Crites hood, PI intake and headers, and assuming the additional Dynamat weight is probably offset by the amount of factory sound deadener/insulation/undercoat pulled out/scraped off, is in the vicinity of 150 lbs.

A Cyclone GT with 4-speed, manual steering and brakes and no additional options was 3534 lb back in the day.

Admittedly a WAG, but suspect the Comets might have been a tad heavier than similarly equipped Fairlanes of the same model year.

Howie - for track outings you might replace those two La-Z-Boy recliner front seats with something more appropriate, probably pick up a few 10ths right there  ;D

Have a safe road trip.

Marc: project is really coming along nicely, going to be a great ride when you get it out the door.  Those pics of the front fender wells brought back some memories of several winter nights in the garage with the Cyclone a few years ago, at the end of each night I emerged looking like a coal miner and was immediately directed into a hot shower with a bar of soap by the better half.

Attached pic (I found it on FB) provided for inspiration.
