It's probably pushing 20yrs ago (!!) but I saw the Hawks and Bailey stocker at an all Ford show running like that, pulling big wheelstands.  Check it out in the pits, vacuum secondary carb, just leafsprings with no slapper bars no nothing.....and he's running in the 10s.  Just absolutely amazing what those stocker guys do with those "original" combos.

What IS amazing is how much the rules have been BENT. ALL 428ci '67 GT500s ran DUAL fours not a single. Now they can run Edelbrock aluminum heads and an over .500 lift cam when the original was a 390GT with UNDER .500 lift. neither Hawk's nor Morgan's are even real Shelbys. No sour grapes here because these cars haul the mail for sure!!! Stock eliminator isn't what it used to be is my point. A 9 second stocker is AWESOME!!!

Certain Edelbrock heads are legal for Stock, simply because finding good stock castings isn't easy to get any more. Not like cars that have them are being pulled into salvage yards daily, like they once were. No reason the car can't be a clone as well. Not like the original cars had a mysterious extra 50hp. Not many people willing to race an original either.

I understand ALL of that as I raced Stock eliminator in the '70s. "Good" cylinder heads were hard to find then , even when you could still buy them over the counter! The valves were already sunk! We were some of the first to use "square lobe" cheater cams from Lunati. Stock has turned into a bracket race unless it's a same class race. The Edelbrock head has made it easier for tech officials who couldn't tell an acid ported head from a stocker. Not sure why electric water pumps were made legal , but it helps the ET. I am glad these guys have chosen to run them as it keeps these 50+ year old cars in the public eye.
I agree that there is nothing wrong with running a clone, even though I have chosen to bracket race my original '66 for the last 47 years. Getting a 9 second ET slip is on "the bucket list". Maybe next year.

Still have the Lunati 428CJ stocker cam in my modded 390. The lobes were certainly aggressive looking.
Cant seem to find the cam card anymore. Not sure what duration is. I believe in the +250's @ 0.050"

Bill Hawk's is indeed a real 67 GT500.

Morgan's car is a real 68.5 R-code Mustang.

      Bob ,
        I didn't think Hawk's was a genuine Shelby.

Best pic I have of Hawk's. It has all the correct tags on it.

Interior not quite right, still may be a real one.  (steering wheel, mirror, rear side panels)
