Member Projects / My 2019 EMC engine Horsepower guess?
« on: September 25, 2019, 09:35:52 PM »
This year's entry will be another 292 Y Block Ford that is a true Y Block with Ford block, iron heads, crankshaft, oil pan, water pump driven by fan belt.  It will be +.062 over bore at 3.812", and the stroke is 3.310" with 10.45:1 compression rounded up to 303 CI.  Camshaft is solid lifter with 233/240 @ .050, 105* CL, .591" zero lash, and single four aluminum intake with BG 930 DP, FPA headers, MSD ignition.

I will be in partnership with Ted Eaton this year for the challenge.  We are supposed to be 6th up on Monday.

What is your guess on torque and horsepower?  Originally this engine was rated from Ford at 202 HP.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Old FE Forum issues ?
« on: July 12, 2019, 04:03:20 PM »
Went to the old FE Forum today to check up on what has happened the last week since I have been on vacation, and the site locked up my computer requesting my identity, e-mail, and password.  I had to do a hard shut down to get out of the lockup.  What gives?   Anyone else had that issue.  I haven't renewed my login, or posted there in months because of the new format, and I hate not knowing why or how they can lock onto your system and freeze it.  Just another reason to stay away from their new forum.  Joe-JDC

It seems that everything I have been trying to pull together these last couple of weeks has been a conspiracy against me.  LOL  Here are a few pictures of what I mean.  You experienced anything like this lately?  I bought a cast iron intake for a Y block that I wanted to port and compare on a dyno test, this is what $100.00 buys you.  Next, I sent a pair of Y block heads for valve job, and this how they came back.  Finally, I ordered two sets of Comp Cams valve springs, and this is what was in the shipment.  The springs are supposed to be picked up today and exchanged.  Hopefully they will make it right.  Joe-JDC

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Valve keepers part number question
« on: May 04, 2019, 08:04:39 PM »
Some of you have access to parts catalogues that I do not have access to any more.  I am porting my personal cylinder heads for a 292 Y Block, and I have Ferrea 5/16" valves with conventional 7* lock grooves, and I have been trying to find a titanium retainer for use with beehive springs.  The beehive spring I used in my EMC engine last year worked perfectly with 11/32" stems and beehive springs (CC 29618-16).  Comp Cams 788-16 retainer, but it does not work with 5/16" stems, and Comp Cams suggests part number 762-16, but they don't furnish keepers or make them for 5/16" valves.  Do any of you have experience with the beehive/5/16" valves?  If so what part number do you use for locks and retainers.  I will buy 10*/7*/7* super locks if they will work.  Titanium would be better.  I also need a part number for 5/16" radial lock for a titanium retainer for same beehive spring for another set of heads.  Any ideas?  Thanks, Joe-JDC

FE Technical Forum / OT:Camshaft correlation between cubic inches ?
« on: February 27, 2019, 10:38:46 PM »
We all know that if you put a camshaft in a 352 FE with 230* @ .050", it will be fairly lumpy, but in a 390, not so much, and in a 428 CJ, even less.  So my question to all you math geniuses and those with engine programs, have you ever seen a correlation with the same cam in different cubic inch engines?  The reason I ask is this, If I have a 302W cubic inch engine and a 383W(351 with 3.75" crank) cubic inch engine of same family, and the 383W makes 540 hp with a 248/252* @ 050", @6500 rpm, what will be the affect if I install that same camshaft with comparable heads, intake, headers, etc.?  Where will the hp and tq band move to?  Ideas?   Joe-JDC

The class rules are finally out.      https://www.hotrod.com/events/engine-masters-challenge/

FE might be a contender if the 427 MR is allowed, or 428CJ.    Joe-JDC

I haven't been able to post anything on Speedtalk since 13 December.  Is there a problem?  I see the administrator says "read only" while he tries to ----.  Anyone been able to post recently?  Joe-JDC

Member Projects / Who says the little Y can't sip high octane?
« on: September 01, 2018, 01:53:54 PM »
Got the initial break in with no leaks, no drips, no errors.  Tried three new carbs, QF-750, BG-930, Holley 1150 Dom, and yes the Dominator made more torque and horsepower on the little Y.  Now for the tunnel ram and TWO QF-650's, or two QF-750's, or Holley 660's.  Looking good so far.  Joe-JDC

Looking to find a couple of sets of the 3 X 2 V spacers like David Seversike's 462 build, or contact to have them machined for me.  Joe-JDC

FE Technical Forum / New BBM Tunnel Wedge arrived today.
« on: October 19, 2016, 05:36:38 PM »
I received my new BBM Tunnel Wedge intake today, and it looks very clean and well made.  I was surprised at the size of the intake ports because I was under the impression the ports were going to be high velocity and smaller than stock.  They are quite a bit larger than the original C8AX-A Ford Motorsports intake, and I wanted to see how it compared with the original in flow numbers.  Standard procedure to tape the seven ports not being flowed, block off the power brakes fitting, and use two open spacers with tapers to reduce turbulence when flowing.  Here are the flow figures from a Ford intake as cast, and the new BBM as cast.

Ford C8AX-A tunnel wedge

1.     374.35
2.     385.94
3.     372.57
4.     365.44
5.     370.79
6.     369.01
7.     380.59
8.     380.59 for an average of 374.91 cfm.

BBM tunnel wedge as cast:

1.     478.56
2.     484.54
3.     479.76
4.     472.58
5.     466.60
6.     479.76
7.     483.35
8.     496.57 for an average of 480.215 cfm

Flowed on SF-600 in air conditioned room at 70*, 38% humidity.  10-19-2016  Joe-JDC

Private Classifieds / Still looking for 427 Low Riser 8V intake
« on: November 03, 2014, 11:42:27 PM »
I am still trying to find a decent LR 8V intake with/without linkage or air cleaner.  Carbs not needed since it will not be for a restoration, simply a street engine.  I have linkage and several air cleaner tops, etc.  Joe-JDC

Wanted still:  LR 8V intake for project engine, not for restoration purposes.  Will be ported, so something that has already been massaged but salvageable, would work.  Thanks, again.  Joe-JDC
