FE Technical Forum / Re: Trickflow heads - gone for good?
« on: February 22, 2024, 12:11:53 PM »
I talked with them at PRI. They had a supplier issue on heads and intakes, sounds like they use 15+ foundries for their products and a handful of them closed. That caused them to have to start back from scratch changing foundries on certain products.

He didn't tell us this, but any wise business you'd assume would start by getting their most popular products back on-line and work your way down the list.

FE Technical Forum / Re: FE Race & Reunion - update
« on: February 22, 2024, 10:19:40 AM »
We were intending on showing up there with our white Mustang and hopefully some new head castings to show people. If it's going to be a flop then we'll avoid making the trek from Colorado I guess.

I would be in support of an event that was hosted a little further west and a bit more centralized. It would also make for a better event if the location was spread around yearly so different folks have a better shot at attending and the collection of vehicles changes. If you look at youtube videos of the event, 2015 looks very similar to 2022 because the attendees list is fairly static. Just my .02.

Thor has built an engine with these. Not sure where that engine is at now?

I wasn't a huge fan of the car, but after watching I like it more. There are a ton of details that you wouldn't notice unless the builder showed you them. The helmet fan is a neat idea for that un-used space.

Joe, we got a Joel's-On-Joy trans for our Mustang. He's pretty careful to build you what you're looking for, I honestly didn't have enough answers for him and told him "do whatever you think is best" quite a bit. It wasn't as expensive as you might think for a full rollerized custom C4. Be prepared to wait a little while, when we were doing ours he was building the drag pak transmissions for Dodge (which may or may not be public knowledge?) and of course Dodge took priority.

I talked with these guys at PRI. He was hoping to have these back in stock in the March timeframe. This will fit in the factory battery holder on a 60-64 galaxie.

We have a friend running one in a pull tractor. It did OK last summer, he's still sorting it. Hopefully better this year.

FE Technical Forum / Re: ARP lube, anti seize, loctite
« on: January 12, 2024, 05:17:31 PM »
Something I learned recently...maybe everyone knows this but I didn't....

ARP lube is intended to be used between the bolt and washer. Not intended to be used between the washer and the part. It's purpose is to assist in smooth torqueing, so not much needs to be used. Adding excessive amounts of the lube could cause a false torque situation when the lube heats up and runs away.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: 1968.5 Cobra Jet Hood Scoop & Stripe
« on: January 04, 2024, 12:49:04 PM »
Lucky for you, I did some of this research recently as well.

Not sure if you have noticed this yet or not, but the stripe is not actually straight. It's wider in the rear than front. This is because the fenders are wider in the rear and if the stripe didn't widen it would create the illusion that the stripe was getting skinnier as it went back.

I looked at detailed pictures of some cobra jet Fords. What I found is the stripe covers 13 of the cowl fins from the middle on each side in the rear. So if you count out 13 fins and make your stripe end just outside of those. The front dimension is 15-1/2" wide. Rear will be close to 17-3/8" if you count out those fins.

This picture shows the scoop with the front grille in it, a local guy helped me realize that it shouldn't be in there so it's since been removed.

You guys got me intrigued, and I have the mock-up block in the drag car, so I decided to throw the blower intake on and see.

Here's the problem..... this Hogan's intake is flat and doesn't have any angle to it like the stock intakes. The rear of the blower where I measured height is just fine and would sit below the hood, the front of the blower is a different story. The blower really needs to sit perfectly flat and parallel with the engine so that the blower belt doesn't have a tendency to work it's way off.

I think it may work under the hood of a 66-67 Fairlane with a 427 scoop. As for a Mustang, only if you want to show off some blower through the hood. In order to run an intercooler it would make the problem even worse. I'm thinking methanol might be the only option.

Here's what you need. Hogan built the intake. Maybe they still have drawings for it? In the box next to it is an intercooler that mounts between the two plates.

I measured from the china wall surface up to the top, it's actually an inch shorter than a 2x4 medium riser intake with an oval air cleaner on it. Would easily fit under the hood of a Mustang.

This is an old AutoRotor blower, which is what Kenna Bell originally used. I plan on using something newer that's a little more efficient. I'd also prefer a rear drive blower that has the air inlet in the front.

I'm going to get around to making it happen, my '62 Galaxie is priority, then after proabbly do my '66 Fairlane with this setup?

FE Technical Forum / Pictures from PRI

For those that didn't attend...

There wasn't a ton of FE stuff represented (as usual), however, we did get to stop by the Trick Flow booth, got to meet Barry R in person, and ran into some FE powered cars in one of the main hallways.

We quizzed the Trick Flow rep about 1x4 manifolds coming back. He assured us that they are in the works. The foundry those intakes were being produced at went under and they had to switch foundries, which meant re-tooling for the new foundry's needs.

Not FE, but definitely SOHC inspired...this was in the Indy Power Products booth. 5.0 Coyote adapters and valve covers that make it look old and cool.

I watched the video and all I could wonder is if the engine was being built for Dan's Galaxie project??
